So when the book ended, I was left speechless! Right in the middle of an "omg" moment. Then I was passed thinking something was messed up with my download because "I just started reading this!!! " I started giving it 3 stars thinking I got ripped off ( with my free book lol). Then I figured I should probably take a better look at the books info..... yea, I think you know where I'm at now. So yes I changed it to 5 stars because so far it's even better than the first 4 books, the "seasons of the moon" series. So now I just have to get the next book because it left me hanging!!!! None of the other books has left me hanging so I'm not too angry about that, because I hate it when they do that! Yes I highly recommend this series to 14+ because there is mention of sex but no details. Also adults that like these types of books. It's not like obnoxious teen stuff, and actually I had to keep reminding myself that they were teens. I am looking forward to the next book so I'm ending this review to order it now! New Moon Summer The Cain Chronicles Book 1 eBook SM Reine Reviews
Okay, I admit it. I finished the last book in the Seasons of the Moon series and I just couldn’t say goodbye. Crazy, I know, but such is the life of a book addict ;)
The approach of this series is a little different than the Seasons of the Moon. Basically because the first 4 installments are short (this one was only 53 pages.) That doesn’t mean that it is lacking though. An awful lot happened in those 53 pages. The pack has fallen into a routine and they’re even growing in numbers. Both sanctuaries are running full force with Rylie watching over the wolves in her pack. She’s still not comfortable running things alone, but she has plenty of support from both Seth and Abel.
In true S.M. Reine fashion, things don’t stay peaceful for long. There’s tension within the pack and danger from outside it. Then there’s the fact that there’s something going on between Rylie and Abel that even they’re not sure about. I’m not sure I’m happy with where things are going – even knowing where they end up (just another friendly warning to read these series in the right order.)
I picked up the first book in this series by itself then I immediately got my hands on the box set that contains books 1-4. It’s about the size of a short novel combined (246 pages) and it’s really broken up into ‘episodes’ instead of books. I’m pretty sure that’s how I’m going to read and review the rest of it. Mainly because the cliff hanger in New Moon Summer was brutal… o.O
I know this was a very short teaser to get everyone to buy the rest of the series, so a lot of people are going to be upset, but look It was free!
**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
In any case, if this series is anything like S. M. Reine's "Descent" or "Ascension" series, it will be excellent. These books will probably have more of the romantic flair than the others I mentioned (there's already a love triangle blooming between Riley and the two brothers, Seth and Abel), but in the Godslayer stories, Elise didn't have much time for romance (although there was a little bit of it between her and James, as well as a few other guys, but for the most part, the romance was confined to minor characters), as she was too busy killing demons and angels, all while trying to keep a handle on her rule of Hell (in later books). I highly recommend the Elise books, aside from the silly book covers, which made the kick-ass female protagonist look like a slutty romance novel protagonist. She might be a little slutty, but the covers belie the wonderful stories Reine has to tell. Those are must-read fiction, as long as a little (okay, a lot) of gore doesn't bother you.
I'll start with the negative which is only one complaint. This is the first episode (which means it's a short read) in a series of four. It's just not enough! As mentioned, it's not necessary to read the first series (Seasons of the Moon) in which the main characters debut, but I highly recommend it. They are a wonderful collection of books that gives the reader a whole understanding and background which leads up to this new collection.
The above story description does a good job of telling you what the story is about. I'd just like to share my opinions in general. I'm very critical of books I read. I'm fussy about grammar and spelling. I get bored easily if the author lacks the ability to give me visualization. Ms. Reine is flawless! Her descriptions create a world that the reader can feel present in. When describing environments or scenario settings, the words she chooses make the reader feel as if they are watching it or experiencing it in real life instead of just words across a page.
With each book I've read by her, I've become more and more impressed with her writing. This book is certainly no exception. I can't wait until the next episode. Kudos to you, Sara!!!!
